Solid
Rock Church
What
We Believe
Below are some common issues distinguish individual
churches.
We adhere to the basic doctrines accepted by
all genuine Christians.
(See the Doctrinal
Statement at the end of this page).
Non-Denominational
We believe we are one
of many congregations which represent the church of Jesus Christ. Solid
Rock is not part of a denominatoin in the traditioal sense. We believe
each local church should be self-governing, but we do not stand alone.
We have and value relationships
with other pastors and Christian leaders in the community. The pastors
at Solid Rock are members of an Iowa City area minister fellowship called
EPIC.
The Holy Spirit
Besides general beliefs,
every church has defining beliefs that distinguish it from others. One
of the most common defining beliefs has to do with Holy Spirit Baptism.
We believe Holy Spirit Baptism is a separate experience and does not necessarily
take place when a person is saved or is baptized in water. We believe the
gifts of the Holy Spirit have never ceased and are operational today.
These include the word of wisdom, the word of knowledge, faith, healing,
miracles, prophecy, discerning of spirits, speaking in other tongues, and
the interpretation of other tongues. An expanded Statement of Faith
is available upon request.
Our Mission and Philosopy of Ministry
We believe that all
Christians should to participate in carrying out the great commission according
to their individual gifting and calling. God has given a five-fold
ministry (apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers) to equip
believers to carry out the work of ministry. We are all called to be disciples
of Jesus Christ.
And the things that you have heard from
me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able
to teach others also. (2 Tim 2:2 NKJV)
Our ultimate mission is
to make preparations for the kingdom of God come on earth as it is in heaven.
More information about our vision is available.
Our People
We are not perfect people
nor are we the perfect church. As we outline our beliefs and vision,
please understand that these are ideals. We are striving to please
God and grow in grace. It is our goal to one day be like Him.
Beloved, now we are children of God;
and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when
He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.
And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.
(1 John 3:2-3 NKJV)
