Who Will Stand in the Gap?
A Spiritual Perspective on the Office of President
As Christians, we
should be different than the world. This difference should be reflected
in our lives in many ways, including the criteria we use in choosing a
political candidate, and in this case the candidate for President.
I believe the first issue that Christians should consider is how
genuine and how deep is the candidate’s faith in God - especially now!
It is my conviction that the problems in our nation are too big for any person to fix and we need a person in the office of president who knows how to stand before God for the nation.
As Christians, we know that our national sins create a breach, or gap,
between God and America? Virtually every Christian I talk to believes
this to be true to some extent. So, how shall we avoid God’s judgment?
When ancient Israel was about to
experience God’s judgment, thankfully they had a leader who could
appeal to God. “...Moses His chosen stood before Him in the breach, to
turn away His wrath, lest he should destroy them” (Psalms 106:23). The
same is true of our nation today. There is no place where the need is
greater for one to stand in the gap than in the office of President.
Who is the candidate who is not only rock solid on conservative issues,
but will also stand in the gap before God? Instead of listening to personalities, pundits and pollsters, we need
to get behind a leader who will stand in the gap before God for our
nation. Do not be deceived by the “electability” argument. If we will
unify around principle instead of politics, we can dominate the
political landscape.
Please share this spiritual perspective with your Christian
friends and neighbors and ask they get involved.
Sincerely,
Pastor Brad Sherman
